‘Grotto ( solo exhibition)
A grotto is a natural or artificial cave used by humans in both modern times and antiquity, and historically or prehistorically. A Dwelling for Gods.’
Grotto is a collection of rings and objects that invites viewers into a shadowy underworld of mysterious forms and outcast creatures. Each handmade piece captures elements that slither and glint, ripple and warp, invoking an almost otherworldly presence. Crafted from precious metals such as bronze, silver, aluminium and gold, and embedded with gemstones, these works hold a tactile richness, merging raw found objects with organic textures. Eyes peek from unexpected places, forms gathered like found treasure, each piece embodying the joy of stumbling upon tiny mysteries—a glint of silver or gold here, a gemstone like a glistening drop of seawater there.
Ouroboros is a series of wall sconces made from salvaged and recast aluminium foundry offcuts. Inspired by early sconce and mirror designs, the series plays with aluminium's illuminating properties and ability to distort and reflect light using candles. Ouroboros challenges our conventional understanding of time and invites contemplation and reflection on the complex nature of beginnings and ends. For each work, the artist used layer upon layer of wax to construct his desired forms before translating them into aluminium through the process of lost wax casting. The works then remain part of an infinite time loop. As the candle wax melts and grows with time and use, this new structure can be celebrated and salvaged, the aluminium re-melted, and the wax re-cast into its next aluminium form, thus giving the design infinite possibilities and life.
