KAORI FUJIMOTO
-
Born in Japan and now based in Vaughan, Central Victoria on Djaara Country, Kaori Fujimoto is deeply influenced by her cultural heritage and a profound connection to the natural world.
Fujimoto primarily uses hand-building techniques, which allow for a delicate, tactile control over the form and finality of each piece. Most of her works are left unglazed; this allows the surfaces to naturally evolve and shift in colour over time, reflecting the organic processes of nature and the passage of time.
Fujimoto's aspiration is to create unobtrusive, sculptural pieces that evoke a sense of calm - much like the peaceful emotions felt when surrounded by nature. She hopes for these forms to feel fluid and in motion, as if they might possess a quiet life of their own.
We are launching our new ceramic artist, Kaori Fijimoto, this Thursday, the 30th of April, as part of Piper St After Dark. Please join us after 5 pm for a relaxed wine-tasting session with Harbinger.
Kaori Fujimoto lives and works in Vaughan on Djarra country and was born in Japan.
The surrounding bush and land strongly influence her work. With a cultural background in Japanese Shintoism, this great respect for nature is the inspiration for Fujimoto’s forms and surface treatment.
Fujimoto’s work is predominantly hand-built, with minimal use of glaze. The unglazed surfaces change colour over the years, reflecting the processes of nature. “The pursuit of my work is to create the calmness one feels when surrounded by nature”.
