Additional Info
Born in Japan and now based in Vaughan, Central Victoria on Djaara Country, Kaori Fujimoto is deeply influenced by her cultural heritage and a profound connection to the natural world.
Fujimoto primarily uses hand-building techniques, which allow for a delicate, tactile control over the form and finality of each piece. Most of her works are left unglazed; this allows the surfaces to naturally evolve and shift in colour over time, reflecting the organic processes of nature and the passage of time.
Fujimoto's aspiration is to create unobtrusive, sculptural pieces that evoke a sense of calm - much like the peaceful emotions felt when surrounded by nature. She hopes for these forms to feel fluid and in motion, as if they might possess a quiet life of their own.
