Alex Dillon is a Melbourne based painter and recent Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts. She has exhibited since 2022 and was recently named a finalist in the 2025 Bayside Art Prize.
Alex Dillon's paintings are a result of an ongoing investigation into the language of documentary film. They begin with an act of excavation - Dillon isolates a single still frame from a moving image sequence. The paintings become a dialogue between portraiture, silent film and the slippage between stillness and movement.
