Additional Info
Coyly posing and certain of their bounty, this genetically modified pair of contemporary iconic Australians is not at all as they appear. Materials lie, and so do dreams of the future.
Made entirely from synthetic materials, this duo refers to a European ceramic tradition that they have reinterpreted.
(This artwork has a UV coat that would need to be reapplied every few years, if they are to be displayed outside in a sheltered area, such as a verandah or under a tree, but not in an open field. The Australian sun is too harsh for any synthetic surface to survive long.)
William Eicholtz is a contemporary sculptor, taking figurative art from its traditional lineage, then reforming and placing it firmly in current artistic dialogue. Evoking classic themes, his sensual sculptures rejoice in metaphor and the physical, with a particular focus on the male nude. Eicholtz acknowledges, in both theme and technique, the figure's place in the classical history of art, then appropriates and translates it into a language infused with a humour and theatricality that embraces modern art.
