A contemporary jug

Whiskey Jug (midnight grass) by Andrei Davidoff

Whiskey Jug (midnight grass) is inspired by the generous stoneware jug forms developed in South Carolilisting the 18th century and finished with slip trailing and glaze. This work captures the feeling of stalking deer in the cold dark dawn on the Monaro grasslands.

Since 2012 Andrei Davidoff has been practicing full-time as a studio potter, ceramic artist, and sculptor. He is well known for creating custom-designed ceramics for some of Australia's most loved and highly regarded restaurants.

Andrei initially established his practice in Melbourne and relocated to Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales in early 2021. Feldmark Pottery was born from this change in location – the name Feldmark is Norwegian for ‘mountain field’. Furthermore, feldspar is an important ingredient in clay bodies and glazes, while the mark recalls the hand of the artist – the maker’s mark.

His functional ceramic pieces are predominantly wheel-thrown and are made from local clay in his studio.

Andrei completed his Master’s in Fine Arts at RMIT University in 2012. He regularly exhibits at galleries across Australia.
