Additional Info

Lindsay has travelled to Japan regularly since studying weaving in Kyoto in 1981. In 2019, she spent 6 weeks in this city she has come to love and know so well. Living in a tiny apartment and sleeping on tatami matting, she made a series of drawings and rubbings of the tatami and commenced a series of small tapestries which celebrate the relationship between the rhythm of weaving, drawing and her bodily presence.

Sara Lindsay lives and works in Naarm (Melbourne). Her career as an artist, educator and curator spans a period of almost 50 years. She currently divides her time between a solitary studio practice, producing delicate drawings and tapestries, and textile-based projects with communities in Melbourne and Portugal. Her tapestries are represented in numerous public collections, including NGA, NGV, TMAG, the Powerhouse Museum & RMIT University.
