JULIE PENNINGTON, BIO + CV

Julie Pennington creates ceramic sculptural vessels that investigate the subtleties and complexities of pattern and texture. They are characterised by a distinct coiling technique whereby each coil is textured and built ‘line by line’ and generates surface texture that is evident in both the interior and exterior of the piece.

Pennington enjoys this slow and methodical process of using my hands to work directly with the clay, requiring no use of trimming or smoothing tools. In this way the immediate activity of making is vital to the outcome of the work and determines its character. Much of the inspiration behind her work stems from observations and emotional responses to the natural environment.
