DAMON MOON, BIO + CV

A second-generation maker, Damon Moon is one of Australia’s most respected and prolific commentators on ceramics. He first started working with clay at the age of fifteen with his father, the well-known Australian potter Milton Moon A.M.

His career has spanned working as a curator in contemporary South-East Asian art to doctoral research into the development of mid-twentieth century Australian studio pottery.

His experience spans both industry and art.

In his previous role as Creative Director of the JamFactory Contemporary Craft and Design ceramics studio in Adelaide, South Australia, he was responsible for the design and production of tableware, a program of training through the prestigious JamFactory Associate training scheme and was liaising with industry leaders in the world of art, craft and design.

In addition to his role at the JamFactory, Damon’s practice encompasses working as an exhibiting artist and as a curator, writer, presenter and facilitator in the field of contemporary Australian ceramics.

In 2006 he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of South Australia for his thesis examining aspects of Australian ceramic history and is recognised as one of the preeminent writers and commentators in the field. His work has been exhibited in Australia and overseas.
