Additional Info

The Scrubber Ring Series was born from a fascination with the domestic scrubbing brush and a curious expression in my German mother tongue –‘Kratzbürste’ literally meaning scrubbing brush. This seemingly utilitarian object has another quite sinister meaning as a demeaning expression to describe articulate, politically engaged women. The Scrubber Rings Series intends to reverse this demeaning terminology inflicted upon women by firstly acknowledging the brushes aesthetic beauty and in doing so consciously elevating and celebrating the work undertaken by women in the home and beyond as important contributions to ensure the survival of families as well as society as a whole. Creating this series of small, beautiful resistance pieces acknowledges and celebrates the vast and varied work that women undertake world wide on a daily basis.
