The Orb Series

The celestial works of the Orb Series are composed of cosmic material. They are imbued with the Urdu meaning of Cosmos (Kaiynat) everything that exists anywhere, which provokes the notion that the universe and the individual are not separate, but the same. This concept of Atman (the real self) an unchanging, eternal consciousness, distinct from the temporary body is central to Hindu belief and unwaveringly pervades Indian culture. In an attempt to reconcile this, 18th Century Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II built a series of cosmic observatories whose predominant intention inspired the Orb series. His creation of grand, permanent structures in Delhi and Jaipur, India, used to measure astronomical data was the vast gesture he made toward his understanding. The resolve of which is as beautifully expressed through the architecture as it is symbolically through the microcosmic works of the Orb series.

“That which pervades the entire body is indestructible.” Bhagavad-Gita 2.17
