JSP PERSONAL STATMENT:

I have always been fascinated by the concept of the "hidden object" which led me to investigate methods of shrouding.

Leathers were the obvious choice as they allow the original object to still subtly be revealed. I use the softest lamb leather in the JSP leather shrouded collection, not only is the lamb leather easy to manipulate but also tactile when worn on the skin.

Baby Pathe Films have always been very close to my heart as I used to be heavily involved in the film industry. Baby Pathe Films were the first JSP piece I shrouded. Each film reel is shrouded in the softest lamb leather so as to subtly reveal the pressed Pathe logo underneath.

Inside each film reel is an actual film e.g. Charlie Chapman, Harold Lloyd, Felix The Cat, and all the manner of French Cultural subjects. So it is a bit of a surprise box as to which film is contained. I have also left some film labels exposed. French filmmakers like Anais Resnais to Jacques Demy, took advantage of the vast collection of films produced by Pathe to learn about the history of Cinema. For those growing up in the countryside or in the provincial cities that lacked a cinematheque, the Pathe-Baby shorts served as an informal film school.

"Wishbones" was inspired by my lockdown. As I was de-bonding my Doberman's BBQ chicken, I looked over to the mound of wishbones I had collected in a bowl and thought why not leather shroud them in hope of fulfilling some wishes during these challenging times? Also during the lockdown, I came up with shrouding Champaign corks and tree branches. I am very much inspired by the repurposed concept of waste no more.
