Additional Info

Since 2014, Melbourne based ceramicist Grace Brown has been creating both sculptural and functional ceramics. Geometry and architecture form the basis of her inspiration, and her work is often modular and movable, offering a dreamlike and utopian quality.

Brown’s first solo exhibition at Stockroom, Lost Worlds is a collection of Utopian cityscapes, dwellings, and miniature communities created as a response to the often dystopian reality outside. Whether this is from drought, natural disasters, displacement, or as of 2020, a global pandemic. A driving question in Brown’s work has been how can these experiences be used to reimagine and redefine the significance of home, place, community, and shared history through sculpture?

Through building dreamlike landscapes, a key element explored in Brown’s work is further investigating the sense of connection we have to the ever-changing environment around us. Lost Worlds seeks to encourage dialogue on the significance of place, community, and what it means to be ‘home’ through art and sculpture.

In 2016 Brown created an exclusive range for the National Gallery of Victoria Design Store, Melbourne. Her work has featured in numerous magazines including Vogue Living (2020), Belle Magazine (2019), and The Design Files Open House Magazine (2018). This is her first exhibition with Stockroom, Kyneton.
